BLOGGING ON

Doing my research on blogging the past few years I came across so many abandoned blogs!  A blogger can go along giving the appearance of doing relatively well in their blogging endeavors only to suddenly never make a blog post again.  I wonder sometimes if that will happen to me.  That I may post one day on Onward and then never get around to making another post.


The reasons it appears to me people quit posting on their blog are many and varied. I am listing the gist of what I have noticed below:
-- It takes more time then people anticipated to blog.  Even the simplest of posts can take hours.
--To be a blogger may be to "wear your heart on your sleeve."  Some may feel they have inadvertently revealed too much personal information.
--Sometimes the subject the person was blogging about has ended.  If it was a blog about their experience during pregnancy or childbirth, adoption etc. and the goal has been achieved.
--There is so much information and social media to read now that even ones acquaintances or relatives may not read the blogs.
--It can be easier to micro blog on other forms of social media such as Facebook and twitter. 
--Negativity and drama draws in more readers then being positive or neutral but many blog folks don't want to go there.


For myself, I didn't blog much last year.  The area where I live, I don't personally know any bloggers. Many people are not even sure what a blog is or have never even heard of it.  My other excuses are that I was busy, my grandmother was in hospice for several months and passed away, and so on. But, I have made a decision to keep on blogging, to press forward, to continue. And "I'll be blogging you long time."

So if you asked me, which you didn't, all these memes are nosy! Edgar Allen Poe just never had to deal with this.  The first questions are: average hours or sleep, last thing I googled, one place that makes me happy, how many blankets I sleep under, what are you wearing right now?

My answer is: REALLY?
The next questions are:  favorite fictional character, last book I read, last movie watched in the cinema, dream vacation, dream wedding, dream pet, dream job, how old would you be if you didn't know how old you were. 
So, my answers are: Amber, in the book FOREVER AMBER; recently I read the book THE WITNESS, last cinema movie BLADES OF GLORY, the dream vacation is Ireland, no dream wedding, no dream pet, 36.

 Final Questions:  which is worse, failing or never trying; if life is short why do we do so many things we don't like and like so many things we don't do.

Well...never trying would be worse then failing because even failing can lead to good things that you might not have had if you never tried. 
And...the reason we do so many things we don't like is because of necessity, peer pressure, and boredom.
The reason we may like so many things we don't do is because imagination is often more enjoyable then reality and work at something.

A random thought:  This candy bouquet that is nothing more then a cheap vase, some ribbon, and a few candy bars, is sold for twenty-five dollars.  A good example of a upgrade per the way it is presented.

1.  Have you ever gotten lost in a maze?  No, I have never been in a maze.  I do drive around in circles quite frequently looking for places I have to go in the country.  But that was not the question.  2.  Have you ever been attacked by a wild animal?  No, I have not ever been attacked by a wild animal.  3. Have you ever ridden a camel?  No, they are fresh out of camels here.  4.  Have you ever pet a rat?  I can't say that I have pet a rat. Not the animal kind anyway.  5. Have you ever been a member of a gym? Yes, I was a member of a gym about 15 years ago.  6. Have you ever been in a helicopter?  Nope.  7.  Have you ever cheated on a test?  Not back in school, I was too scared of getting caught to do that.  But online tests and trainings now often give you the correct answers to questions answered incorrectly and so when you take the test again you know the correct answer.  That feels like cheating.  8.  Have you ever ridden a tractor? Oh yes. I have ridden a tractor. It's been several decades ago but I have ridden a tractor.  9. Have you ever passed wind/or gas in an embarrassing situation?  Yes.  I am sure we all have.  10. Have you ever played the bongos?  Yes definitely, I have played the bongos.  I have played the bongos but not correctly.  Is there a correct way to play bongos?  11. Have you ever handled a snake?  No-oh?  12.  Have you ever assembled furniture by your self?  I have assembled Barbie Beach House furniture.  13.  Have you ever been scuba diving?  No, I can watch scuba diving on TV instead.  14.  Have you ever had a disastrous interview?  Um, sure I have.  15.  Have you ever sold your services?  Technically, we all sell our services in exchange for our time if we have a job working for people other then ourselves.  16.  Have you ever won a giant size cuddly toy from a fair?  No, other people won them for me :)  17.  Have you ever milked a cow?  Milking cows was "before my time".  18.  Have you ever raised money for charity?  Yes.  19.  Have you ever used the phrase "back in my time' to someone younger?  I use that phrase quite often. It makes it sound as if our life is over.  20.  Have you ever invented a fairly unique meal or drink?  No, I have not. It would be hard to create a unique meal or drink as the majority of us just eat the same food over and over.  While we might call it Mexican food or Italian or Gourmet , it is usually still just made of the same ingredients we always eat.  No matter what we call it, it is still just fish, beef, pork, grains, vegetables, etc.

Sunday Stealing: Are You?

In my case this meme is more about what I am not:)

1,  Are you a psychic in any way?  I am very empathetic with people.  I can look at people and know exactly how they feel that day.  It can make me feel exhausted if I am in a large group of people because it feels as if I am sort of bouncing off of the emotions of others.
     People at Church often think I am prophesying about them because I can "hit the nail on the head" about their life or emotional situation.  However a preacher told everyone no one was prophesying over them, that some people could tell them things simply by the fact that the person "had been around."

2.  Are you a good dancer, good singer, good artist, and/or a good cook?  Nope

3.  Are you a good listener?  I rate excellent in that department.  All kinds of people tell me their problems.

4.  Are you a good public speaker?  I am not a public speaker at all. I have done minor things like one hour orientations for clients through work.

5. Are you a good babysitter?  I am a very good, experienced babysitter. I was the oldest of four kids and my mother had me watch the other kids while she cooked, cleaned, shopped, did laundry, and worked outside the home. My first jobs were babysitting.

6.  Are you a good mechanic?  No,  
7.  Are you a good diplomat?  My sister doesn't think so.
8.  Are you a good swimmer or skier? In Kentucky there is not adequate snow to learn to snow ski.  Water skiing is a thing but I was never able to do it the few times I tried.  I do know the basics of swimming.
9.  Are you a good dresser?  I live in Kentucky.  People in the fashion industry would not think I am a good dresser.
10.  Are you a good gift giver?  My sister doesn't think so.
11.  Are you a good comedian?  I joke a lot.
12.  Are you a good cleaner?  I may as well say no, although I can clean well when I want to.  
13.  Are you a good actor?  I recently had someone tell me that they "couldn't read me." I was delighted to hear that because my knees were bothering me, I had been feeling like crap for several weeks, but they couldn't tell!
14.  Are you a good writer?  My sister doesn't think so.

Thirteen Blessings This Week

Sometimes we have to stop and think of the blessings we have in this life and some of the best blessings are the simple things. It has been a very vexing few weeks for me with a combination of different trying situations. One of these is that my 91 year old grandmother is in hospice at home with a combination of the three often fatal illnesses of CO PD, heart failure and stomach cancer.  The other things are more minor issues it's just that so many little things together can be overwhelming.  Even in the middle of crisis we look for His voice and find it and these are thirteen blessings I have been grateful for this week.

1.  Technology has truly blessed me this week as I have gone to different appointments and was able to get in and out relatively quickly in half an hour or less.  This was due to offices making efficient use of computers and new time saving strategies for themselves as well as clients.  How well I remember doctor's offices and government offices back in the 1990's having full waiting rooms of frustrated clients waiting for two hours and more. I actually don't have to go to many appointments hardly ever anymore as I can take care of more and more business online.

2.  My aunt who was visiting from another state gave me a bottle of very nice scented lotion just hours after I realized I was out and would have to hunt down some more.  It was not a coincidence it was a small moment of realizing God's provision. How many times do things like this happen and we barely blink or take notice because we get lots of blessing like that?

3.  My brothers flew in from two different states and I was able to help meet them at the Nashville airport within an hour and a half of each other. This blessing was also due to the technology as well as airports becoming so much more time efficient.  The layout of the airport, the parking was much more pleasantly convenient then I remembered it being from 15 years ago.
4.  I got to see my brothers! One of them I hadn't seen in 3 years.

5.  My aunt from out of state tirelessly cleaned up at my parent's and grandmother's house. She also contributed by shopping for supplies and food for large gatherings of family coming in and out.
6.  My grandmother remained so sweet of spirit even as she is ill and never showed any irritation or uttered one sharp word to anyone. This can be very unusual of people who don't feel well.
7.  The hospice organization sends people in to help my grandmother shower five days a week. This relieves family members who are not experienced caregivers or who are elderly themselves from having to do that.  Also my grandmother can rest better being fresh and clean.
8.  I was blessed by the family augments that didn't happen as people tried to co operate and make the best of the situation even in the middle of tiredness and stress.
9.  I was blessed that the family members from out of state took the time to visit my grandmother while she is still alive.  Try not to wait for funerals to go home and if a choice has to be made for one or the other I would say skip the funeral and visit with people while they are alive.

10.  The electricity went out in my town unexpectedly around midnight one night.  I don't know what happened but thanks again to Technology for helping getting it back on in about 50 minutes. This also reminded me to be glad I was born in a time people are lucky to have electricity.
11.  I got to talk to the big child by phone almost everyday, sometimes for more then an hour.
12.  I was blessed by friends and family who encourage each other on social media. People I know are busy worshiping the Lord, going on diets, exercising, thinking outside the box, having wedding and graduation celebrations, birthday parties, and helping others.
13.  The weather this past week was startlingly beautiful with temperatures in the the low 80's, big puffy clouds in a blue sky, summer flowers starting to bloom. It was perfect backdrop for the down to earth, hard working people in Kentucky.
