Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was a German writer best known as the author of the drama FAUST. Goethe wrote drama, poetry, and literature with themes of theology, humanism, and science. Goethe questioned if humans have free will and if an individual can have a truly good experience of life if they are repressed from society and convention or repressed out of fear.
